A Pelican At Rest Tends To Stay At Rest

The story of this picture:

We were enjoying some clam chowder on the Monterey Wharf and watching the boats and birds on the bay.
I had to visit the restroom. While I was in there, I heard some sounds out the window.
I looked out the window and spotted this pelican sitting about 8 feet away on the dock structure..
The pelican was not dismayed by my face and camera sticking out the window.
However, looking at the condition of the structure on which he sat made me realize
that the restaurant was resting on that same, somewhat antiquated, base.
